Berlin Wall

Berlin, Europe's fastest growing city, is definitely one to watch over the next few years. With so many new buildings already finished and with so many yet to be completed, it is no wonder why travellers are flocking to experience what the streets are offering.

Upon arriving in Berlin, no time is wasted as your bags are ready for pick up and you are quickly ushered through customs. Catching a Taxi to the city is only EUR15 and not even 30 minutes away. Yes all the taxi's here are Mercedes so travelling in style is standard for everyone.

Peering outside the window, you see the lakes are frozen and the remains of snow lying on the footpaths.  There are plenty of things to do and see in Berlin and one of the best ways is to jump on the hop-on/hop-off city tours.

Berlin offers the keen shopper all the latest in fashion and quality stores. Food is reasonable considering the Euro exchange. The locals are incredibly friendly and the majority speak perfect English. Despite this try out a bit of German, it's a great language to attempt to get your tongue around.

It was easy to get around via the trains however remembering the stations or even pronouncing them is a challenge. For EUR33.30 Euro, you can enjoy a weekly train pass which takes you on the entire network and with the train operating every few minutes, you will always be on time.

Memorial Church
With the many restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs, you can immerse yourself in Berlin's burgeoning cosmopolitan atmosphere. The city is still growing and at first you could take this as a grey city, but as you tour the city and remember where it has been, you instantly gain an appreciation and admiration as to how far this city has come in such a short time. The Berlin wall was only pulled down in 1989.

If you are lucky and can travel through the winter, waking up in a city like Berlin and seeing the landscape covered in snow, when it truly glimmers like the rare jewel that it is.
