Delta offers travel bookings through Facebook I am about to go on location from Indonesia, but before leaving I picked up this very interning snippet of news from the USA and one which I think is one of the most significant steps yet or on line travel bookings. I am talking about the announcement by Delta to allow passengers to book through Facebook. I believe their new "Ticket Window" on Facebook, that will allow passengers to book directly on the social media site, is a significant development and while it will damage bookings with agencies or not, it is too early to tell. What is for certain though is that Facebook has a massive following and comfort level with many users, especially younger and more technically capable ones and booking travel in this form could prove to be very easy for them to access. This is also the first time an airline has allowed customers to reserve flights on Facebook, although nearly all major U.S. airlines use Facebook and Twitter to promote sales, with Delta planning to expand the Ticket Window to other sites, including online banner ads from which customers could book directly. Interesting! We shall have to wait and see what impact this has or travel bookings. What do you think?
