Albatross Travel's War Historians Bring to Life the ANZAC Tragedy

Thursday, 2 September 2010

The Albatross Travel Group has included the services of a highly experienced team of qualified Australian War Historians* on several of their ANZAC tour departures.

The Albatross War Historians have all handled numerous Albatross ANZAC groups before and will be with you throughout the time you will spend on the Gallipoli Peninsula and on the Western Front.  They will be on hand to bring to life those tragic campaigns of long ago – everything from the dawn landings on the barren beaches of Turkey to the gallant but fruitless charges across the muddy battlefields of the Somme. Their intimate background knowledge helps separate fact from fable and provides numerous fascinating insights into the lifestyle and living conditions of the infamous ‘Diggers’.

Whether it be in larger group talks or smaller, more personal discussions your Albatross Historians’ experience will immediately be obvious. Whether you are at Shrapnel Valley or Villers-Bretonneux, Albatross Travel’s war historians will be there with you helping you understand and appreciate what really happened. We believe their contribution is absolutely essential to give you a complete and fulfilling experience. So who are this talented team?

Major Graham Docksey, OAM (Retd)

Graham joined the Army in 1964 and has served in all ranks as a soldier. In 1967 he saw active service in Vietnam as an Infantryman and was commissioned as a Captain in 1992, and promoted to Major in 1998.  Graham has conducted commemorative tours of Gallipoli each year since 1998.  In 2010 Graham retired from the Army after 46 years, the last 8 years of which was spent working with the Australian Army History Unit.

Dr Richard Reid

Richard joined the Australian War Memorial in 1983 and has worked extensively in their Historical Research section. In 1993 he was the Executive Officer of the project to exhume the remains of an Unknown Soldier and he personally escorted them back to Australia. The ABC published Richard’s book on Gallipoli and he was a major contributor to the design and creation of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs fascinating websites. Richard currently holds the position of Senior Curator at the National Museum of Australia.
