MAS investigates body found in aircraft toilet

Thursday, 2 September 2010

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has completed its investigation into the conduct of six cabin crew after a dead body was found in an aircraft toilet on 31 July, 2010.

The airline has declined to reveal the results of the internal probe, which examined the compliance of six MAS cabin crew with standard operating procedures (SOPs), The Malay Mail reported.

"The detailed investigations are complete. We have taken various actions internally to ensure strict compliance to standard operating procedures," MAS director of operations, Mohamed Azharuddin Osman told the newspaper before declining further comment.

The six crew members were relieved of flight duties pending the investigation into their conduct.

The internal inquiry comes after the body of 38-year-old Australian passenger Hammon Michael Peter was discovered by cleaners in a toilet of MH767 at 10.50pm on Saturday 31 July (Malaysia time) – 20 minutes after the passengers had disembarked and the crew had forgotten to check the toilets.

Police believe the deceased to have been a drug addict, as an empty syringe was also found in the toilet, raising concerns over guidelines for bringing syringes and needles on board.
