Sailing in Langkawi

DMS Destination Marketing Services together with Pacific World Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Tourism Malaysia and Starwood Hotels hosted a five day familiarisation trip to Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi for eight meeting and incentive industry participants from Australia and New Zealand.

The group was treated to Malaysia Airlines' new business class seating and experienced the style and elegance of the Westin Kuala Lumpur and Westin Langkawi as well as the luxurious Andaman, A Luxury Collection Resort, Langkawi.

In Kuala Lumpur Pacific World Asia introduced the group to Hindu culture at the sacred site of the limestone Batu Caves before taking participants on a cultural tour through the Royal Selangor Factory where they met with the granddaughter of the Factory's founder and made their own pewter smith bowl to keep as a souvenir. The impressive Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with capacity for 10,000 people also featured on the day's itinerary.

Pacific World Asia enticed the group with a little taste of everything in Langkawi. Local food came in the form of fresh dragon fruit picked straight from the tree at Mardi Tropical Agro Farm as well as a more elaborate meal at the award winning Gulai House Malay restaurant. The group took a guided nature walk through local wildlife and flora on the edge of The Andaman and participated in an expedition through mangroves where they spotted monkeys, otters and stingrays as well as eagles diving for food off the Kilim Jetty.

An afternoon spent sailing the waters around Palau Beras Basah Island, a round of golf at The Datai Golf Club overlooking the mountains, silk painting on local fabric and a lesson on the dos and don'ts of Ramadan, an annual Muslim tradition, rounded out the group's experience of Malaysia's best known holiday destination.

"There is a myriad of activities on offer for conference and incentive groups in both Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi and plenty of variety when it comes to venues and eateries whether you're after a local experience or five star luxury," said Kristie Turner, Account Manager at DMS who co-hosted the familiarisation. "Both destinations also present great value for money and the short flight time from Australia makes for a hassle-free experience."
