Mr. Joon-kil Jo has arrived in Sydney to take up his new role as Director for Australia/New Zealand of Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) from September 1, 2010. Mr. Jo has twenty years of experience working for Korea Tourism Organization in various KTO Head Office departments as well as a term as Deputy Director at the Los Angeles KTO office. At the same time KTO Sydney office also has a new Deputy Director, Ms. Sophia Cha who recently arrived to take up her new role in Sydney. The new Sydney office Director Mr. Jo arrives in Sydney at a time of rapid growth for the Australian & New Zealand market. In recent years Australian and New Zealand visitors to Korea have been growing dramatically and interest in the country has never been greater. Recent statistics show excellent growth with July statistics showing a 30% increase in Australian visitors and 41% increase in New Zealand visitors over July 2009. From January to July 2010 total Australian visitors to Korea was 65.549 (up 25% on 2009) and New Zealand visitors 15,607 (up almost 20% on 2009). It is expected that Australian visitors to Korea this year will surpass the 100,000 milestone for the first time. In his new role, Mr. Jo aims to further develop the strengthening tourism market to Korea from this region. ‘I look forward very much to working with the Australian and New Zealand tourism media and industry personnel over the next three years’ during my three year term based at the Sydney office’, he said. |
