Poverty relief work gains two honourable mentions from Condé Nast Traveler (US)

Influential US travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler has recognized the pioneering community work of Siem Reap boutique property Hôtel de la Paix with two honourable mention in its 2010 World Savers Awards, in both the 'Education Programs' and 'Poverty Relief' categories.

Hôtel de la Paix was the final 'City Hotel' candidate in both of these categories, with Condé Nast Traveler's expert panel making particular reference to the hotel's "sewing centre that provides income for 100 Khmer women".

Annually honouring "the airlines, cruise lines, city hotels, resorts, hotel chains and tour operators saving the world", this year's World Savers Awards received a record 164 applications. Seeking "authenticity, connection and, most important, the chance to help the places that give us pleasure", Condé Nast Traveler's panel of 29 expert academics, CEOs, philanthropists and editors painstakingly narrowed this down to just 32 honorees across five categories.

Hôtel de la Paix is committed to actively helping the local community wherever possible. Through its two-year 'Purchase with Purpose' partnership with MasterCard, the hotel has donated 897 bicycles to needy children in the Siem Reap area; its Community Connections programme meanwhile engages guests in helping impoverished families by providing anything from basic necessities such as food and personal amenities to employment opportunities and support. The hotel's innovative Arts Lounge also provides a unique international platform for local artists.
