Perth Hotels to benefit from 2011 CHOGM
LEADERS from 54 nations and over 3000 delegates and visitors will visit Perth in October 2011 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
According to Ms Cheryle Irvin, General Manager of Metro Hotel Perth, CHOGM is the biggest event to be held in Perth for many years. “With the leaders of 54 Commonwealth nations set to participate, this will be the biggest single event to hit Perth shores since the America’s Cup.”
The meeting aims to increase public awareness of the value and function of the Commonwealth. As part of a diverse agenda, it includes business, youth and community forums that will provide some opportunities for local business and the community to participate. The event also provides the added benefit of showcasing Perth and Western Australia as a modern and world-class tourist and business destination.
“This will be a rare opportunity to promote Perth throughout the world,” said Ms Irvin. “Our great city and all it has to offer will be at the centre of world political debate for that week in October 2011.
With an anticipated influx of people coming into the already busy city of Perth, hotel occupancies are expected to be extremely high not only during the meeting but in the weeks either side of the event.
“Our Hotel has already received numerous enquiries from interested groups during the CHOGM period,” said Ms Irvin. “All the hotels and other tourism operators in Perth are certainly looking forward to a very busy and exciting period”.
