An American Airlines (AA) 737 plane travelling from Chicago to Reno was forced to turn back after it was struck by lightning mid-flight. AA flight 1487 was returned to O’Hare International Airport as a precautionary measure, American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said in the Chicago Sun-Times. The lightning strike was believed to have occurred shortly after take-off, though Ms Fagan was unsure of the exact timing. Though it could not be immediately determined if damage to the aircraft had been sustained, AA employs mechanics in Chicago who could repair the plane if required. However, the airline does not have mechanics stationed in Reno. Passengers were being booked on other flights, Ms Fagan said. No injuries were reported. |
