Cruise ships have become popular stages on which to host celebrated chefs, exquisite food and impeccable service – all key elements to a fine restaurant dining experience. Increasingly, culinary geniuses from Marco Pierre White to Australia’s Luke Mangan are bringing their extraordinary talents onto the floating resorts of cruise ships. Included in Cruise1st’s list of first-class cruise cuisines was P&O Cruise’s Ventura, which boasts their signature restaurant, The White Room, headed by British chef Marco Pierre White. Mr White had three Michelin stars by the age of 33, and has been dubbed “the godfather of modern cooking”. Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 boasts award-winning restaurateur Todd English and his unique Mediterranean cuisine. The Todd English restaurant offers an intimate atmosphere overlooking the ship’s pool terrace, Cruise1st’s report said. P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Jewel & Pacific Pearl (December 2010) will feature a boutique restaurant headed by one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs, Luke Mangan. Salt Grill by Luke Mangan features a range of delectable signature creations including Liquorice Parfait with Lime Syrup. Also included in the list were: award-winning Sydney chef Serge Dansereauonboard MV Orion; “Savour Your Destination” culinary specialty on Celebrity Solstice; Mediterranean cuisine from two-star Michelin chef Mauro Uliassi aboard MSC Magnifica; Bernhard Zorn’s creations on the River Queen; Maureen Brandt’s debut on the Allure of the Seas; and coastal cuisines, prime beef and fresh seafood from Quest’s Aqualina and Prime C restaurants.
