Returning to LA felt so natural, maybe this city is growing on me? There was no longer the fear that I had walking out of LAX initially. I remember that feeling that I might get mugged when I arrived the first time last year. I was always so scared because of what I'd heard about the city being so dangerous. I caught the Super Shuttle which, at $15 (plus gratuities) is a bargain to get to The Georgian Hotel right on Santa Monica beach. Always the last to be dropped off, whilst the price is very fair, the hour or so it takes to get to the hotel is the downside. Having never been to Santa Monica before, I was excited to see a different side to LA and when I caught the first sight of that infamous ferris wheel's blinking lights at the pier, I knew I loved this place! The Georgian Hotel is perfectly located just down from the Santa Monica pier and across the road from the beach. A boutique property, you can feel the rich history from the moment you enter the building. Art Deco paintings line the walls in a style reminiscent of my walks through South Beach, Miami last week. My Queen Ocean View suite takes my breath away. A long corridor leads you to the lounge room complete with chaise longue and large flat screen TV. French doors open to present a very spacious bedroom with French shutters and access to the double bathroom. I peek through the window to gaze at the pier and just know what gorgeous view will greet me in the morning... Pictures can't capture the beauty of this hotel room. I feel as if I am living in a bygone era with the elegant decor and history surrounding me. My 9 hour transit has created a hunger and, one thing about the USA is that I tend to crave fresh food. Guest services at the Georgian Hotel direct me to Sushi Roku two doors down and I spend some time watching the chefs whipping up some sushi at the bar in front of me. It's exactly what I need before taking a stroll to Santa Monica Pier. I've been told not to walk along the beach as the side of the hotel is a safer option...so I do this and am surprised to see the amount of people out at 11pm on a Monday night, I can only imagine what it would be like on a Saturday night. My 9 hour transit and impending 14 hour flight home encourages me to try and get an early night and my only regret is that I don’t have more time to experience all that Santa Monica offers...it’s just something else to add to my bucket list though... |
