On Location at Pow Wow: Pow Wow to LA, LAX to get a facelift

Thursday, 26 May 2011

The International Pow Wow tradeshow will have a second year in the West Coast when Los Angeles hosts the event in 2012 followed by Las Vegas in 2013.

The move from northern California to southern California will further showcase the State and its two biggest cities, which the tourist board hopes will lead to increased investment and tourism opportunities in years to come.

LA hosted the event in 2004, but delegates have been promised to expect something entirely different as the city will incorporate its newest product offering into next year's program.

With over US$10 million invested into new structural improvements throughout Los Angeles, President & CEO Caroline Beteta said, which includes new museums, restaurants and thriving neighbourhoods.

2011 forecasts for the city are expected to increase by 3 per cent domestically and 4 per cent by international travellers, with also higher numbers in travel spend.  In 2010, travel spend topped US$95.1 billion with US$17 billion invested by international travellers, up 9 per cent.

The Tom Bradley International Terminal in LAX is also undergoing renovations to its West Wing, which is expected to be completed in 2012.  The facelift will incorporate new gates to accommodate new generation aircraft, improved terminal services and shops and offer better, quicker and smoother access for travellers.
