It appears the wide seats and extra leg room of business class is now attainable with the launch of Australia’s first credit card offering unlimited two for one international business class airfares.
Virgin Australia’s frequent flyer program Velocity rewards and American Express have joined forces to launch the American Express Velocity Cards which are designed to make business class more affordable.
Out of the three reward cards The American Express Velocity Platinum Card offers the most travel benefits and rewards. The two for one offer on the platinum card entitles members to complimentary international business class companion airfares on full priced seats flying with V Australia or code-share partner Delta.
Further still the card comes with a complimentary annual domestic return economy flight to a choice of 26 destinations flying Virgin Australia.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to ensure our members get the most out of our velocity Frequent Flyer program, and one of the easiest ways for members to earn velocity points is through everyday spending on direct earn credit cards,” Virgin Australia general manager Phil Gunter said.
“We know that these new American Express Velocity Cards with their excellent earn rates and benefits will be attractive to people who want to fly more often with Virgin Australia”
According to an online survey conducted by Galaxy Research, 2.5 million Australians have flown business class for reasons other than work, 41 per cent are more likely to pay for a business class airfare themselves compared to 31 per cent of their place of employment.
“More than a million Australians have used credit cards rewards points to fly business class and around three quarters of the population would fly business if they could take a companion for free, picking the right card can be just the ticket to getting there.” American Express vice president Rob Hennin said.
