  ::Aussies dive into Harbour Plaza::

Harbour Plaza Hotels and Resorts said thank you to their valuable Australian business partners in Sydney on Friday following another memorable year for the hotel group.

Present at the event were the Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees, Harbour Grand Kowloon, Harbour Plaza Metropolis, Harbour Plaza North Point, Harbour Grand Hong Kong and the Australian favourite Kowloon Hotel.

“We are popular because we are in the heart of the most popular tourist area of Hong Kong, Tsimshatsui - and Nathan Road,” Kowloon Hotel director of sales and marketing Musetta Wong told e-Travel Blackboard.

“In fact, we are the top selling hotel to Australians in Hong Kong,” Ms Wong said.

Echoing Ms Wong was Harbour Plaza Metropolis director of sales and marketing Lucetta Chan who revealed that Australia was its biggest source market.

“We have 90 per cent occupancy all the time ... and more than 20 per cent of our business comes from Australia,” Ms Chan said.

Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees director of sales and marketing Alec Chan said Hong Kong really appealed to Australians as it was about more than just shopping.

“We have really nice beaches ... and we even have dolphins [in Lantau],” Mr Chan said.

Chan, whose 8 Degrees hotel enjoyed a “really good first year”, then told e-Travel Blackboard that the property’s name came from the design of its lobby ceiling, which angled at 8 degrees, created the illusion of a lop-sided reception.

“It’s based on an airplane taking off,” Mr Chan said.

“And 8 is a lucky number for Chinese.”
