Berlin Wall

Berlin, one of Europe's fastest growing metropolises, is definitely a city to watch. With countless new buildings and with so many yet to be completed, it is little wonder travellers are flocking to its streets.

Upon arrival in Berlin, no time is wasted as your bags are picked up and you are quickly ushered through customs. Less than 30 minutes away, a cab ride to the city will only cost around 15 Euros. And yes, all the taxis here are Mercedes so travelling in style is the norm.
Peering outside, you may be fortunate to see frozen lakes and the remains of melting snow, as I am.

There are plenty of things to do and see in Berlin and one of the best ways to negotiate the city is to jump on the one of the hop-on/hop-off city tours. Hop-on/hop-off tours guide you to all the major sites of this historic city including the Berlin Zoo and Aquarium, the famous Jewish Museum, Gedachtniskirche (Memorial Church), the Sony Centre, Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate and of course, the Berlin Wall.

Brandenburg Gate

With a cosmopolitan population second to none in Europe, you will find the local cuisine tasty, well priced and varied. And shoppers will be spoilt for choice as department stores, high quality fashion boutiques and street markets all vie for your patronage.

Getting around on Berlin’s punctual and regular trains is easy. But remembering station names can be a challenge. A weekly train pass will help save time. And if you do get lost, a large portion of the incredibly friendly population is able to speak fluent English. Attempting the local lingo however is highly appreciated by Berliners.

Memorial Church
With many restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs, you can easily immerse yourself in Berlin's burgeoning cosmopolitan atmosphere. The city is still growing and at first you could take this as a grey city. But as you tour the city and remember where it has been, you instantly gain an appreciation and admiration as to how far this city has come in such a short time. The Berlin wall was only pulled down in 1989.

If you are lucky and can travel through the winter, waking up in a city like Berlin and seeing the landscape covered in snow, when it truly glimmers like the rare jewel that it is.
