| Time is running out to book a seat on one of Greyhound Australia’s Toowoomba to Birdsville Races charter tours. More than 6000 people are expected to descend on the small outback town on the banks of the Diamantina River for the annual racing carnival, which unofficially gets underway on 31 August. Chief Operating Officer Tony Hopkins said Greyhound Australia had been running charter tours to the Birdsville Races for several years and the unique event was always popular with Toowoomba residents. “With less than a fortnight to go before the start of the 2011 celebrations seats are selling fast,” Mr Hopkins said. “The iconic Birdsville Races started in 1882 and people return every year because of the fabulous party atmosphere, quality outback racing, live entertainment and premium hospitality. “Greyhound’s tour package includes return travel from Toowoomba, most meals while in Birdsville, accommodation in the famous Tent City and a commemorative Birdsville Races t-shirt for just $695 per person. “Make this the year to experience the thrill of an annual outback race meet like no other, now held to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.” Mr Hopkins said catching a Greyhound coach to the Birdsville Races also made a lot of sense, giving travellers a hassle free, environmentally friendly way to enjoy the festivities. “Racegoers will enjoy travelling in the fully air-conditioned, luxury coaches, which feature large panoramic glare-free tinted windows, a restroom, filtered water and LCD screens,” he said. “It’s also a lot greener than taking the car outback because Greyhound is one of the most environmentally efficient travel operators in Australia. “Just one full Greyhound coach means there are at least 16 fewer cars on the road.” |
