Wedding bells in Vanuatu

Getting hitched in Vanuatu is as popular as ever, according to Port Vila-based wedding organisers, Weddings Parties Evrisamting.

Talking to e-Travel Blackboard at Tok Tok Vanuatu, director Samara Birch said that last year’s record number of weddings was likely to be matched in 2011.

“We did 65 weddings last year, which was the most we’ve ever done,” Ms Birch said.

“Tourist numbers are down this year but we should be around the same.”

And it’s not only Australians and New Zealanders that are deciding to tie the knot in Vanuatu, with couples from as far away as Europe deciding to wed on its shores.

“We had a couple of Sweden and one from Norway who were backpacking,” Ms Birch said, as a marriage taking place just metres away from the trade show got underway.

“It’s a very relaxed atmosphere here and it’s always warm, so it’s the perfect environment for getting married.”

The icing on the Tok Tok cake for Weddings Parties Evrisamting was their award for ‘Best Tour Operator Booth’ at the event.
