Greyhound Australia has welcomed the official opening of the $10 million Noosa Junction Transit Centre, a joint initiative of the State and Federal Governments and Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Greyhound Chief Operating Officer Tony Hopkins said the architecturally-designed bus station was a modern facility which would provide a convenient and central transit hub for travellers. “The opening of this multi-million dollar facility is fantastic news for transport providers and tourism operators in the region,” Mr Hopkins said. “Greyhound will continue to service the existing stop on Noosa Parade for some time but has included the Noosa Junction stop into all of its services travelling via Noosa and will work with local operators and accommodation providers to make sure passengers are aware of the new location. “The Transit Centre will bring new life to Noosa Junction and reduce traffic congestion in busy Hastings Street to make it easier than ever for locals and visitors to access this special part of the Sunshine Coast. “This facility will also enable the region to cater for anticipated future growth in both the residential and tourism sectors.” The Noosa Junction Transit Centre features seven bus bays, drop-off and pick up facilities for tourist buses, public toilets, three layover bays, short term car parks, loading bays for adjoining shops and public plazas and bicycle storage. It is located at the intersection of Cooyar Street and Sunshine Beach Road, Noosa Junction. The State Government provided $5 million towards the project, with $3 million contributed by the Federal Government and $2 million provided by Sunshine Coast Council. |
