The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract
Aswan reopens!

Greece Med Travel taking bookings for the newly refurbished hotel with rooms from $245 per person per night*.

The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan is reopening its doors in September 2011. Behind the Victorian façade the hotel retains its original beauty with Persian carpets, marble bathrooms, and hand-carved furniture making you feel as if you’ve stepped on to the set of a movie.

The historical lobby with polished marble floors and classic high Islamic arches introduces you to a luxurious experience filled with history and stories. The hotel is built in the Nubian Desert on the banks of the Nile, opposite Elephantine Island, majestically positioned on a shelf of pink granite overlooking the Nile.

The newly refurbished hotel features four restaurants and four bars with a Fitness centre, indoor heated pool and two outdoor pools. The Spa offers an extensive menu of treatments many inspired by the Nile.

The Old Cataract brings you back to the days of Agatha Christie, who is said to have written part of her novel Death on the Nile at the hotel, which also appeared in the movie. Over the years, the Old Cataract Aswan has hosted many royals and celebrities, including Aga Khan III, Tsar Nicholas II, Sir Winston Churchill, former US president Jimmy Carter, former UK Prime Minister Lady Margaret Thatcher, and former French president François Mitterrand.
