Have you ever lost yourself in Venice? Have you ever walked through its mazes and magical alleyways? Make your experience memorable with Sun Island Tours, your Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Travel Experts I was born in Venice and I lived there for 14 years and I still get surprised every single time I go back to visit my family. Venice is built on an archipelago of 118 islands. Its world-famous canals serve as roads connecting all the islands, and each island is a delight to walk while watching the water shimmer in the sunset. Vaporetti, or water buses, as well as water taxis are also available when travelling from island to island. However, the best way to discover Venice is to get lost in the tiny cobbled streets, surrounded by endless canals and cute little bridges (400 altogether). A great place to start your Venetian holiday is in the centre of Venice, the Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square) which is right in front of St. Mark’s Basilica. A highly recommended site to visit is Doge’s Palace, The Peggy Guggenheim Museum is another must-see, with its vast collection of modern art. If you are only in Venice for a short time, visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. Murano houses a breath-taking collection of glass sculptures, and Burano is known for its Lace Museum. For a slower pace, Torcello offers a nice hideway from the hustle and bustle of tourists. The best time to visit Venice and to avoid high prices and big crowds is between late September and April. The 11-day “Carnevale di Venezia” (Venice Carnival) in February is something that can’t be missed out also if it’s another time when hotels put up their rates.
