Travel Counsellors’, their families and head office staff gave up their Sunday morning sleep-in for a very worthwhile cause on Sunday 09 October, by competing in various events in the Melbourne Marathon in support of the company’s chosen charity PLAN Australia.

It was all smiles at the finish line for Rob Millington, husband of TC Tina Millington, who ran the full marathon in just over 3 hours and looked like he’d just been on a leisurely walk!  Tina and her two children Will & Lily also competed in the 5km run, making it a full family affair and a great family day out. 

Despite the rainy conditions, there was a great contingent of support from other Travel Counsellors who also competed, Jake Bartlett and Claire Phillips joined head office Recruitment Executive Kerryn Murphy on the 10km run, all with impressive times.  A number of Travel Counsellors from throughout Victoria and their families also turned up in force to take on the 3km walk.

The day’s accolades were saved for the key organizer for Travel Counsellors Matt Cox, IT Manager at TC head office in Melbourne, who previously competed in last year’s London Marathon on behalf of Travel Counsellors.  Matt and his fellow head office colleague Paolo Valle, Marketing & Graphic Designer took on the ½ Marathon Event, and although both were suffering recent injuries, rose to the challenge and made it across the finish line.

“The sense of pride for the short term pain and the long term gain of raising money for such a great charity as Plan, one that we support both here in Australia and in the UK, is just amazing” beams Matt Cox after catching his breath from the sprint to the finish line.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our Travel Counsellors and our fantastic head office support team, we are all one big family and day’s like this just prove that we are united in whatever we set our minds to, and raising money for such a great cause in the process just makes it a very special day.  We will definitely be back even bigger and better next year!” comments Travel Counsellors Australia General Manager, Deb Duncan.  Deb and other head office staff, as well as TC family members were at the finish line to cheer on the competitors who then enjoyed a picnic lunch & drinks together to end a very successful day.
