EXCLUSIVE: Far Horizons sold

Friday, 14 October 2011

Former Garuda Orient Holidays product manager and travel veteran, Nick Deacock, has taken a leap into owning his own wholesaling business, purchasing South Australian-based, Far Horizons.

While negotiations with former owners, Martin and Auriel Wright have lasted months, Mr Deacock told e-Travel Blackboard the acquisition is still quite new and although management has changed, the business core will remain the same.

He stressed that “no visible changes will be made to the operations” of the company and Mr Wright will even continue to play a role in the business, handling the creative side of the business as well as providing programs.

“The core business will remain unchanged, it will still be very upmarket with exotic destinations for passengers looking for something different and unusual,” Mr Deacock said.

With over 30 years experience in the wholesale travel industry, the company’s new head said the move to purchase the business fell into place with his experience and personal situation sitting in line with Mr Wright’s decision to step down.

“Everything seemed to line up at the right time,” Mr Deacock added.

“My time with Garuda came to and end recently and I felt that with my experience and maturity it was time to re-visit conversations I’ve had with Martin long ago and more recently.

“We’ve always had a good relationship so it worked out because of his eagerness to work with me as opposed to putting the company up on the market.

“We have a very strong future ahead.”
