South African Airways has continued to expand its African network with the announcement that it has increased capacity on the busy Johannesburg to Harare route. According to SAA's Head of Australasia, Thevan Krishna, the airline has seen increased demand for services to Zimbabwe from both business and recreational tourists from Australia and New Zealand. "With the problems of inadequate airlift to and from Zimbabwe (and to assist Air Zimbabwe with current challenges) SAA has recognised the country's potential as one of the most visited countries in Southern Africa,” Thevan said. “We have decided to add an A330 on the route with immediate effect. Our 250-seat aircraft has much more capacity than the 737's now servicing Harare and will help meet growing levels of demand from travellers and the travel industry," he said. "The move complements SAA's strategy to be the major global airline serving the African continent and underscores our capacity to meet additional demand when required. It follows recent announcements of expanded capacity to countries like Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda." "We look forward to continuing to develop our network in Africa as tourism and business traffic increases," Thevan concluded. |
