Taiwan is building its very own Stargate in a bid to distinguish Taichung City from other regions, create an urban culture for the locals and intrigue visitors.

Expected to be complete by 2017, the circular feature was selected as the winning design from a Taiwan Tower competition and is will stand 320 meters high as well as utilise eco-friendly initiatives including sustainable energy, Gizmag reported.

Designing the Tower, Chicago-based STL Architects said in an online statement that the building would serve as a landmark observatory and will be made with pixilated glazed opening in the central area and will embedded several stories into the earth to resist movements and stop the building from collapsing.

“We envision this reality as a coherent blend through an architectural landscape anchored by iconic venues that will satisfy the needs of locals, the industries and future trends,” STL Architects said in an online statement.
