Rugby fans score a try with special Gold Coast Sevens travel prices

Monday, 14 November 2011

Rugby fever has landed and footy hounds travelling on Greyhound can enjoy the sun, sea and Sevens without the hefty travel price tag.

Greyhound Australia is offering rugby fanatics safe, cheap and hassle free travel so they can get right in the thick of the action at the inaugural Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch tournament.

This November, fans travelling from Brisbane to Surfers Paradise can do so for as little as $20, while seats from Byron Bay to Surfers Paradise start from $21.

Rugby fans nationwide can also take advantage of Greyhound’s “MatesRates”, which offers discount tickets for travellers in groups of two or more. Passengers travelling in pairs buy one ticket and get 50% of the price of the second, while fans travelling in groups of three or more each get 25% discount on travel.

Greyhound Chief Operating Officer Tony Hopkins said the Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch Tournament is set to be a highlight in this year’s sporting calendar.

“With 16 international teams competing in this year’s tournament and the Festival of Rugby celebrations taking place in the week running up to the event, crowds of Australian and international rugby lovers are expected to travel to the Gold Coast,” Mr Hopkins said.

“Whether fans are travelling intrastate or interstate, hopping on a Greyhound coach is a safe, cheap and convenient way for supporters to journey to and from the Gold Coast.

“Rugby fanatics who choose to travel with Greyhound can spend less time tackling traffic and worrying about parking, leaving them with more time for sun, sea, sport and cheering on their country.”

Greyhound customers can also sit back and relax knowing they have chosen to travel with one of Australia’s most environmentally efficient travel operators.

One Greyhound coach emits five times less carbon dioxide per kilometre than a jet aircraft over the same distance.

The inaugural Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch Tournament will take place on the 25 and 26 November in Skilled Park. It will be preceded by The Festival of Rugby from the 19 to 24 November, a week-long celebration presented by a number of Rugby and sporting organisations with the support of Events Queensland.

Greyhound travels to over 1100 destinations in Australia each day, carrying 1.3 million passengers more than 29 million kilometres a year.
