A recent small business survey released found that female entrepreneurs are leading the way when it comes to using social media for their business. According to research conducted by American Express, 43 per cent of female entrepreneurs are using at least one type of social media in their business compared to 37 per cent of male business owners. The national survey of over 1000 small business owners revealed that female business owners are twice as likely to use Facebook as the communication tool most likely to generate sales. Additionally, 15 percent of women were more likely to have a business twitter account compared to 10 percent of males. However, the survey found that men are more interested in investing in new technologies with 54 percent of men owning a smartphone compared to 42 percent of woman. American Express small business services manager Jason Fryer said while male business owners concern themselves with acquiring the tools needed, woman focus on how to best make the technology work for them. “It is encouraging to see that 40 per cent of all small business owners are using at least one form of social media in their business demonstrating this sector’s resourceful and eagerness to embrace new technology.” Mr Fryer said. Mr Fryer added the company will be launching a face book page designed specifically for Australian small business owners to connect with other business owners. |
