To mark the success achieved from the increased frequency of Emirates flights to Vienna, Emirates and the Austrian National Tourist Office invited guests to an intimate evening with the Sydney Symphony.

Austrian National Tourist Office Director Ms Astrid Mulholland-Licht said she was certain the increase in visitor arrivals to Vienna and Austria from Australia is in part due to the increased flight capacity Emirates is offering to Vienna.

“We have had an increase of around nine percent so far this year from down under to Austria and Vienna has fared even better with over 15 percent plus in arrivals from Australia,” Ms Mulholland-Licht said.

“This increase has been extremely valuable to us,” Ms Mulholland-Licht added.

Ms Mulholland-Licht also predicted over 130.000 overnights for Vienna from the Australian market for 2011, stating this was “an amazing result and the highest ever.”

During the evening members of the travel industry enjoyed a stirring Symphony Orchestra performance of Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.

Guests were also treated with canapés and deeply aromatic Austrian coffee served by Edmund and Elna Schaerf from a mobile Vienna Kaffeehaus set up especially for the guest’s enjoyment.

Also speaking at the evening Emirates Regional Manager Tim Harrowell said the extremely close relationship with the Austrian National Tourist Office is a major reason for their success.

“Vienna is one the success stories of the ever expanding Emirates European network as evidenced by a further capacity increase earlier this year to 13 flights per week,” Mr Harrowell said.

Mr Harrowell added that the Australian market has significantly contributed to their success as not only does Vienna offer a great deal to the leisure and corporate traveller it is a key gateway to Central and Eastern Europe.

Looking into the coming year the Austrian National Tourist Office will be focusing on another Gustav, the famous painter Gustav Klimt, well known for his famous painting ‘The Kiss’.

In Celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth, next year some of Vienna’s most prestigious museums including Vienna’s Belvedere and Leopold Museum will showcase his work.
