Alec Baldwin has Words With American Airlines

Monday, 12 December 2011

30 Rock actor Alec Baldwin has vowed to never travel via American Airlines again after he was asked to leave a flight for refusing to switch his phone off.

Taking to Twitter to vent his frustrations, the actor noted that other passengers in the aircraft were also using their phones and he refused to do so because cabin crew were solely targeting him, E Online reported.

"hey @AMERICAN_AA: How come ok 4 other 1st class passengers 2 tweet while @alecbaldwin asked to leave while using his device? #hypocrisy," the Tweet read.

Occurring on Tuesday last week, the actor was playing Words With Friends at the time of the incident and has since deactivated his Twitter account but not before outlining that the carrier was place for “retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950's [to] find jobs as flight attendants".

A day after the debacle, American Airlines issued a statement claiming Mr Baldwin refused to turn off his class phone even “when asked to do so at the appropriate time”.

"The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane's lavatory," the carrier’s statement read.

"He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked.

“They immediately contacted the cabin crew to check on the situation.

“The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language."
