Passengers travelling over the Christmas-New Year period should plan ahead so they can be on their way sooner during Sydney Airport’s busiest time of year.

“Christmas and New Year is the busiest time of year for Sydney Airport, with passengers flying to spend the holidays with their families and friends,” Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said.

“The peak period has already started, but the weekend before Christmas – December 17 and 18 – and Christmas Eve are expected to be our busiest for international flights, and January 14 and 16 for return journeys.

Passengers should note that the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be closed for three weekends starting January 13, and the M5 East will be closed in both directions on various nights up to March 2012 for essential maintenance works.

“Allow plenty of time to get to the airport and if possible, check in online at home so all you have to do is drop off your bags,” Ms Mather said.

“There are plenty of options for getting to Sydney Airport and people should consider great services like the Airport Rail Link, which will take you from the CBD right up to the terminals in less than 20 minutes, or the 400 bus.

“We have also increased the number of taxi spaces at T2 Domestic to 15 and this will cut waiting times for passengers during peak periods.

Sydney Airport will have extra staff and Gold Ambassadors over the holiday period to help passengers and manage traffic flow around the terminals.

The Sydney Airport website is a great resource for planning your trip to the airport, finding out your check-in-counter (up to 24 hours prior to departure) and checking the latest information on what you can take on board. You can also find out more about the great range of bars, restaurants, takeaway outlets, shops and services to visit while you wait for your flight or our great value parking offers.

Finally, if you’re flying domestic through Terminal 2, remember to pick up our special offers booklet, with vouchers for discounts and giveaways at participating retailers like McDonalds, Red Rooster, Boost Juice Bars and Sunglass Hut, valid to December 31.
