FREE ENTRY Historic Gledswood Homestead in the Macarthur region is opening up its sweeping lawns in front of the grand, convict-built sandstone mansion for musical luncheons on three Sundays in January. Built in 1829 and set amongst 64 hectares of rolling countryside near Camden just one hour from the Sydney CBD, Gledswood Homestead and Winery boasts magnificent colonial buildings and lush gardens. The new owners of Gledswood are opening up the property’s beautiful lawns for lunches on Sunday, January 15, Sunday, January 22 and Sunday, January 29, with visitors able to buy delicious meals from the new Gledswood café while listening to live entertainment and sipping Gledswood’s new signature sparkling wine. The property was settled Gabriel Louis Marie Huon de Kerillian in 1810. A French nobleman, de Kerillian fled the French Revolution and joined the NSW Corps after arriving in Australia in 1794. Changing his name to Gabriel Lewis, he was a one time tutor to the sons of John Macarthur, who settled the area now named after him in 1805 and went on to pioneer Australia’s agricultural and wine industries.
