Western Sydney dubbed best for second airport

Tuesday, 3 January 2012

Although the Government has ruled out the possibility, a survey has found that the most prime location for a second Sydney airport would be in the quiet Western Sydney areas such as Wallacia, Greendale and Luddenham.

Describing current International Sydney Airport as over capacity, a study released by a government taskforce explained the Nepean district which covers the suburbs mentioned above is “stress ahead” of other possible building locations, New Limited reported.

Although Sydney Airport recently unveiled plans to unite domestic and international operations and divide its interior into alliance groups, the report filed by the federal and statement governments highlighted that the airport could not be able sustain growing operations into the city.

As well as considering the Nepean district, the report highlighted that facilities at Richmond and Bankstown could also be expanded as an alternative.
