Ryanair and CEO voted villians

Tuesday, 3 January 2012
In an unpopular turn of events for Ryanair, the low-cost carrier has received the most consumer votes for the number one airline they would most like to erase from the listing, according to a recent business travellers poll.

The poll of up to 252 business travellers saw Ryanair take out the title for ‘business travel villain’ and receive 57 percent of votes for brands, people or places that buyers would most likely to erase.

The no-frills airline’s CEO Michael O’Leary also ranked in the top five villains with his no-nonsense, no-apology attitude and reputation for loose talk in the airline industry.

British Airways was most favorable hero with 33 per cent of voters backing the airline, and 29 per cent said it inspire the most confidence in buyers.  Interestingly the airline also ranked number two on the villains list, showing how one good or bad experience can affect a brand in the eyes of buyers.

Eurostar, EasyJet, Boris Johnson and Emirates completed the heroes list with Easyjet and Heathrow Airport the remaining villains.

“It’s great to see easyJet at number three on the heroes poll, given the airline only launched into the business travel market at Business Travel Show this year.  And congratulations to the likes of Eurostar and Premier Inn. Premier Inn is a great British success story - the company is currently the UK’s fastest growing budget hotel chain,” Business Travel Show event director David Chapple commented.
