If I could do it all over, I’d certainly make Fiji my Schoolies destination. Not only for the endless sprawl of white sand, crystal blue seas and sizzling sunsets, but for the opportunity to live carefree for a week, amongst your peers and in an environment that is specifically designed to cater to your every need and desire. I was fortunate enough to spend seven days exploring the three Fijian islands of Beachcomber, Plantation and Mana, with hundreds of school leavers enjoying their international schoolies holiday. It truly was an experience. Unleashed Travel understands exactly what it is school leavers want and are intent on delivering. From the moment you step foot on the plane, you can feel the atmosphere and electricity that binds the kids before they’ve even met. Unlike other destinations, such as Byron Bay, Surfer’s Paradise or the Whitsundays, Fiji offers something extraordinary and special; a feeling of warmth, hospitality and authenticity. “We were greeted at the airport, marina and again on the islands by the local Fijian staff and resort crew. It was utterly amazing to witness the lengths they went to in order to make us feel welcome and immediately at home in their country” said Jess, 18, from Sutherland. The island resorts of Beachcomber, Mana and Plantation are among the most popular for travellers and allow schoolies the freedom to enjoy an international island lifestyle, something they may not have been privy to in earlier years. Parents can take solace in the fact that Fiji is a safe destination, with extra security provided, Unleashed crew members available 24 hours a day and entire island resorts booked out and charted specifically for Schoolies patrons only. I remember staying up until the wee hours of the morning, enjoying music on the beach and admiring the energy and endurance of these high-school honourees. It was clear they were having the time of their lives. “I did so much yesterday, I went kayaking, sailing, snorkelling and that was all before lunch!” said Erica, 17, from Parramatta. There are plenty of daily activities and nightly entertainment is on overload, with events such as the infamous black & white night, freaks & geeks party and the ever popular gender bender. “Schoolies in Fiji was amazing, I never imagined it could be this good!” said Joshua Del Pozo, 18, from Como in Sydney. When I finished school in 2003, I ventured to the Gold Coast for a week of madness. Although it was fun, there was a lack of organisation, understanding and reliability that I found ever-present amongst the island staff and Unleashed crew in Fiji. “We love having the young Australian school leavers come over each year and bless our islands with their exciting personalities and willingness to celebrate” said Beachcomber Island activities staff member, Ziggy. When considering a destination for Schoolies, select something unique, pick the once-in-a-lifetime experience. Choose Fiji with Unleashed Travel. Unleashed Travel: http://www.unleashedtravel.com.au |
