Angel born on board China Eastern

Friday, 6 January 2012

Young female crew members employed with China Eastern Airlines were given the opportunity to revise their childbirth training after a woman gave birth to a baby girl on a recent flight.

Feng Yu delivered her three kilogram baby girl a little after 10.30am Tuesday this week on board a two hour China Eastern flight travelling between China’s Sichuan Province to Wuhan, CRIEnglish reported.

A China Eastern spokesperson told media that the woman gave birth with four attendants aiding the delivery.

"I was frightened when the baby's head came out but the body was still stuck,” one of the attendants explained.

“I asked myself to calm down and firmly held the woman's hand and tried hard to recall what I had learned from emergency training.”

The flight crew vacated and used the last two rows of seats on the Boeing 737 for the delivery along with pillows and blankets stored on the plane.

Apart from being on board a plane during deliver, crew also encountered issues when turbulence began to shake the cabin as the baby’s head emerged.

"I shouted, 'one, two, three, breathe in ... one, two, three, breathe out' as we have been taught, while other attendants held her hands and supported the baby with blankets," another attendant added.

After the baby finally emerged healthy, happy and crying other passengers on board the aircraft clapped and cheered.

According to media, both mother and baby are happy and healthy and parents decided to name the child ‘Angel’ as a thank you to the attendants assisting with the delivery.

Congratulations to Ms Yu and baby Angel.
