The Regional Tourism Organisation’s General Manager David Hancock says he has received messages of support from tourism industry groups all over New Zealand following the tragic accident which claimed the lives of 11 people on Saturday morning. “We are all devastated by the events that happened in Carterton yesterday and our thoughts are with the victims’ families and with the Carterton community,” says Mr Hancock. “But our tight knit community is also in the thoughts of the tourism industry and tourism operators right across New Zealand and for that we are truly thankful.” Since implementing its own Crisis Communication Plan, Destination Wairarapa has been on the ground in Carterton working closely with the Carterton District Council, police and local authorities to support and assist those impacted.
