Late yesterday travellers flying from Perth Airport may have experienced cancellations after severe storms forced Perth Airport to cease some services. In a statement the Airport said flights to and from Cloudbreak, Port Hedland and Karratha were cancelled yesterday due to Cyclone Heidi. Meanwhile Port Hedland Airport’s website shows that it was forced to cancel flights after the region was placed on red alert early this morning. A spokesperson told the Sydney Morning Herald that the cyclone contingency plan was set in place on Tuesday afternoon and all inbound traffic has been cleared. Winds in the region are reported to have picked up to 140 kilometres per hour with extremely heavy rain, Herald Sun reported. "We're certainly feeling the full brunt of Cyclone Heidi as she crosses the coast," Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett explained to Channel 9. "She's certainly packing a little punch at the moment. |
