Ex-Bomber Jason Johnson to Lead Sportsnet to Gallipoli this Anzac Day

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

Former AFL Essendon Bombers star Jason Johnson has jumped at the opportunity to again be a special guest escort to Gallipoli this April to commemorate ANZAC Day.

The anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australians and New Zealanders during the First World War, ANZAC Day is a time spent remembering all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Following the success of 2011, Sportsnet and Jason Johnson have once again teamed together to provide a unique travel experience, one that is as emotional as it is enlightening. A fully escorted journey, tour guests will visit the Gallipoli Battlefields, cruise the Bosphorus and partake in a memorable ANZAC Dawn Service at ANZAC Cove.

Exclusive to Sportsnet tour guests, a private supporters venue has also been arranged, to watch the AFL blockbuster match between the Collingwood Magpies and Essendon Bombers, played out on the hallowed turf of the MCG.

A participant in six AFL ANZAC Day matches and privy to war memories of many Diggers during his playing days, Jason Johnson knows all too well the power of a ANZAC Cove Dawn Service. "Nothing can prepare you for the emotional impact of a dawn service and the horrid realisation of what our troops had to endure," Johnson says. "So many lives lost - 2000 per day - soldiers must have entered battle knowing full well that they were not likely to return home. I can recommend to anyone thinking of travelling to Gallipoli for the ANZAC Cove Dawn Service that they will have an experience they will never, ever forget." Johnson concludes.

Sportsnet’s exclusive escorted tour including airfares to Istanbul, 6 nights accommodation including 1 night at ANZAC Cove, Dawn Service, AFL match viewing and more, begins 21 April 2012 and starts from $4249- twin share.
