Visitor arrivals set historic high for Hong Kong

Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has announced record breaking visitor arrivals surpassing 41 million to Hong Kong in 2011.

The total visitor arrival numbers to Hong Kong reached a whooping 41,921,310 representing an increase of 16.4 percent from the same period last year.

A statement from Hong Kong Tourism Board Chairman James Tien read that they are extremely encouraged by the strong growth of the regions tourism industry in 2011.

“Not only did visitor arrivals reach a historic high of almost 42 million, but tourism receipts will
also likely surpass HK$250 billion Mr Tien said.

According to HKTB in 2011 overnight visitor arrivals increased by 11 .1 percent to 22.32 million of total visitor arrivals to the region year on year.

Figures reveal that Mainland China represented the most growth in overnight arrivals to Hong Kong which increased by 16.5 percent, while Taiwan also recorded a 7.5 percent increase.

Mr Tien said they will continue to invest in various market regions using promotions and projects strong growth for 2012.

“We project there will be single-digit growth in visitor arrivals in 2012." Mr Tien added.
