Queensland hotels shine in Top 25: TripAdvisor

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

Akama Resort in Hervey Bay makes the top 10

Good news for Queensland’s tourism as thirteen of the sunshine state’s top hotels feature in TripAdvisors Travellers Choice ‘Top 25’ Australian Hotels list.

The list has been derived from the millions of hotel reviews and feedback gathered by travellers on the TripAdvisor travel review website.

Tourism Queensland Acting Chief Executive Officer Steve McRoberts said the news was great for Queensland’s tourism industry.

“The TripAdvisor reviews and opinions which fed into the development of the Top 25 Hotels in Australia list represent bookings for Queensland tourism operators and show the great work and resilience of our industry.”

Queensland hotels that feature in the top 10 include Akama Resort in Hervey Bay, Martinique on Macrossan in Port Douglas, Summit Apartments Airlie Beach, Kewarra Beach Resort & Spa in Cairns and Coconut Grove Apartments in Port Douglas.

Hotels that feature in the top 25 include Pink Flamingo in Port Douglas, Oceans Mooloolaba, Sea Star Apartments in Airlie Beach, Peninsula Airlie Beach, Oceana on Broadbeach, Elysium Apartments Palm Cove, Saltwater Luxury Apartments Port Douglas, and Marina Shores Airlie Beach.

Mr McRoberts attributes the positive result to a number of initiatives Tourism Queensland and tourism operators have undertaken in 2011, including ‘Nothing Beats Queensland’ marketing initiatives, as well as the ‘Queensland’s Pledge’ and ‘Vitamin Me’ campaign which encouraged Australians to take a break in Queensland.

“All these initiatives as well as Tourism Queensland’s planned regular marketing activities in 2011 have contributed to Queensland hotels featuring strongly in the TripAdvisor list.”

According to recent figures in the year ending September 2011 Queensland welcomed almost 19 million international and domestic visitors.
