Cracks on windshield forces CX flight back

Cathay Pacific flight CX-735 on route from Hong Kong to Singapore was forced to turn around 15 minutes after takeoff earlier this week when the pilot discovered cracks on the windshield of the cockpit.

According to media reports the pilot made the decision to turn the plane around that was carry a full load of 311 passengers and landed safely back at Hong Kong International Airport about 30 minutes later.

No one was injured in the incident and passengers on the aircraft were transferred to another Singapore bound flight that departed around 4pm.

A spokesperson for the airline said the aircraft had been in service for 8 years and while the cracks appeared on the first of six layers that the windshield comprises of, the aircraft’s safety would not have been compromised.
