Associations-only session at AIME

Thursday, 2 February 2012

A one-off education session exclusively for Australian association managers and leaders is being held for the
first time in Melbourne next month.

Hosted by the Australia Associations Project in conjunction with Associations Forum, the session is being run
during AIME at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre from 8.00am to 9.45am, Tuesday 21 February
2012.

The session will bring to life the recently released toolkit - “Attracting delegates. Guidelines and tools for
successfully marketing business events in Australia” – and provide attendees with a step-by-step guide
to attracting delegates to their events.

Available only through Australian convention bureaux and convention centres since its release late last year,
the toolkit was developed with input from associations hosting international events, leading convention
bureaux and convention centres, and others involved in attracting delegates to association events.
Attendees will receive step-by-step guides, tools and templates they can use to help them plan and execute
successful events, including:

 Pre-event and post-event surveys
 Marketing and communication timeline
 Budget template
 Social media checklist
 Media release template
 How-to guides to social media

They will then have the opportunity to quiz an expert panel of association leaders including Dr Wayne Castle
(Australian Water Association), Vicki Smith (Australian Physiotherapy Association) and Bronwyn Wilcox
(Australian Institute of Company Directors) who have successfully staged events ranging in size from
workshops and seminars up to conferences, exhibitions and international congresses.
The event is open to all Australian-based associations and is free-of-charge.
