Romance the stage with Queensland Theatre Company

Thursday, 9 February 2012

While Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to tell those you love, that you do; Queensland Theatre Company invites you to a year-long romance with the stage.

QTC Artistic Director Wesley Enoch urged Queenslander’s to use February 14 as a reminder to look to the stage for the greatest love stories of all – stories of romance, lust, passion, forbidden feelings and simple friendship.

“This year we will bring to Queensland the greatest love story the world has ever known in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. This is a true tale of love and tragedy. In the lead, our own shining star in Melanie Zanetti who wowed as Eliza Doolittle in last year’s blockbuster Pygmalion, alongside Thomas Larkin as Romeo (stunning image available),” he said.

“Seeing romance – in all its complicated forms – on stage is a powerful memory to give anyone.”

Enoch’s top three romance experiences for Season 2012 include:

  1. Ray Lawler's Australian Classic Summer of the Seventeenth Doll from Feb 22.

This play was the coming of age for Australian drama and a very important work in the annals of Australian literary critique. Essentially it’s about relationships and how they change over time. Cast includes Robyn Nevin and Alison Whyte.

  1. Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, from April 21.

Relive the romance, danger, beauty and passion of history’s greatest ever love story. Directed by Jennifer Flowers, this is an extravagant theatre event you won’t want to miss.

  1. Head Full of Love by Alana Valentine from July 7.

A story of two remarkable women and the unlikely but inspiring friendship which forms between them. It truly underwrites the value of love in any friendship and stars two huge names with Colette Mann and Roxanne McDonald.

“We're bringing the big theatre event back to Brisbane; these shows are specifically handpicked because they can appeal to everyone so more people come to more theatre, more often. The course is set, the stars are aligned and we've made the mixed tape. The question is which adventure will you choose?”

Single tickets for Season 2012 are now on sale
