QLD luring kiwis to holiday

Wednesday, 22 February 2012

Tourism Queensland has embarked on a new marketing campaign for 2012 which is aimed at attracting New Zealanders’ to Queensland through holiday packages.

Tourism Queensland Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hayes said starting this week, two marketing initiatives with a combined value of AUD119, 000 would be rolled out, plus a marketing campaign run jointly with Flight Centre and Gold Coast Tourism.

“From now until February 24 Kiwis will be exposed to great Queensland holiday packages via multimedia, print, television, online and social media,” Mr Hayes said.

“For example, New Zealand travellers can book a Surfers Paradise holiday package including return airfares and seven nights’ accommodation from NZD545.00.”

Additionally, Mr Hayes said a supplement promoting Brisbane holiday packages has run in the Sunday Star Times over the weekend.

“Over 200,000 copies of the supplement were inserted into the February 19 edition of the Sunday Star Times, which is fantastic exposure for Brisbane." Mr Hayes said.

Mr Hayes said New Zealand is the Sunshine States largest international market with 398,000 Kiwis visiting Queensland in the year to September 2011.

“In the same period New Zealanders stayed over 40 million nights in Queensland and these visitors spent over $500 million on their trips to the state.”

Mr Hayes said the marketing activity being run this month in the New Zealand market will assist in placing Queensland at the top of Kiwis minds when next booking their holiday destination.
