The laughs, the cameras and the evictions are heading back into Dreamworld with the announcement that the theme park will play host to the Big Brother house in 2012. As the reality hit prepares for its first season back on the small screen since its cancellation in 2008, Dreamworld chief executive Todd Coates said the house would become an “iconic attraction”, bringing visitors into the Gold Coast. “It is fantastic news for Dreamworld, and also for the local film and tourism industries,” Mr Coates noted. “Dreamworld is proud to participate in this significant investment into the Gold Coast.” The show, which aired for eight seasons from 2001 was eventually cancelled after its overall ratings slipped from the 1.7 million high in 2003 to 948,000 in its final season. Looking to return the show to its former glory, Southern Star executive producer Alex Mavroidakis stressed the new season would “exceed” all expectancies. “Our hub at Dreamworld always allows us to create a show that is truly dynamic and after a four year break, we’re excited to build a brand-new House that will exceed Housemate and audience expectations,” Mr Mavroidakis said. Although tickets to the show are yet to be confirmed, former Dancing with the Star host Sonia Kruger is said to be fronting the show while the show will also make the switch from Channel Ten to the Nine Network. |
