Cocktail Course
Rocking Penang

Tempting Treat

Sweet fruit juices, combined with delicious liqueurs and steamy weather transformed simple ingredients into a refreshing and icy afternoon cocktail.

During my time in Malaysia I was privileged to uncover a few trade secrets regarding the delicate art of cocktail making at The Hard Rock Hotel, Penang.

Surrounded by the buzz of the Lobby Lounge, we were given a short course and taught how to prepare the house special, a ‘Rocking Penang’.

After being dealt ingredients by one of the cocktail-crazy bar staff, we eagerly awaited instructions on how to prepare one of the simpler but incredibly tasty treats that regular guests rave about.

“Cocktails can be put together simply, are lots of fun to make and always great to drink,” our friendly barman said.

The ‘Rocking Penang’ contained vodka, amaretto, mango and pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix, banana liqueur and a dash of blue curacao.

The key to success was adding the right amounts of alcohol and juice and more importantly combining them in the right order.

“Get it right and the colours will seep through the ice and look absolutely fantastic!” our barman explained.

There was no need for any fancy shakers or arm-aching acrobatics; just pour, stir and enjoy the delightfully tangy and truly heavenly refreshment.
When we were done we were able to kick back and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

The Lobby Lounge and Kings Club of the Hard Rock Hotel, Penang serve up a stunning selection of cocktails, tap beer and other tempting and tantalising concoctions at reasonable prices for guests and visitors.

Next time you visit Malaysia, be sure to make a stop at the beachside Hard Rock Hotel, Penang and indulge in a ‘Rocking Penang’ or ‘Purple Haze’ or ‘Frozen Mohito’ or... well, you decide, they’re all delectable and delicious.
