Marriott International is on track for the planned 4,000 hotels across its 14 brands in 90 countries by 2014, focusing on the Chinese market. Expansion of earnings will be targeted in China, with over 100 hotels expected in the country by 2014, according to a recent presentation by the hotel group in China. This equates to Marriott opening on average a hotel a month for the next three years. Marriott International’s president and chief executive officer Arne Sorenson said China is the group’s second most important market after North America, representing roughly 5 percent of total fees. “China is a fitting place to present our tremendous global growth story and discuss our outstanding financial prospects.” The Chinese market will generate 30,000 jobs for Marriott by 2015. Out of the 38 million members in the guest loyalty program Marriott Rewards, one million of these are Chinese members. Mr Sorenson concluded by saying “we are excited about our future, here in China.” |
