The Big Jumeirah Sea Turtle Race

On Friday 29th June Jumeirah’s properties in Dubai will go head to head in the Big Jumeirah Sea Turtle Race where six rehabilitated turtles will be released back into their natural habitat.

The Green and Loggerhead sea turtles, which have been restored to health by the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), will each be fitted with a satellite tag that tracks their location and measures the success of turtle rehabilitation. Each of the tagged turtles have been sponsored by one of Jumeirah’s Dubai based properties including Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Jumeirah Living, Madinat Jumeirah and Wild Wadi Waterpark. The turtle which travels the farthest over six months will win their sponsor a trophy.

At the same time over 100 Hawksbill turtles will be released by children, including children from local schools, hotel guests and competition winners, at the event which will for the first time be open to the public – allowing UAE residents the opportunit y to experience first-hand the exhilaration of returning turtles to the wild.

The event, which is hosted by Kris Fade from Virgin Radio, includes children’s activities, refreshments and the opportunity to enjoy the beach facilities for the day* making The Big Jumeirah Turtle Race the ultimate family day-out.

The DTRP is based at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah and runs in conjunction with Dubai’s Wildlife Protection Of fice.

When: Friday 29th June 2012, 8.30am - 10:00am
Where: Madinat Jumeirah beach (Parking at Mina A Salam)

Spectators to the event are invited to enjoy the beach facilities for the rest of the day at a special rate of 100 AED per person.
