In a first for P&O Cruises, all seven ships in the fleet gathered in their homeport of Southampton yesterday as part of year-long celebrations commemorating the 175th anniversary of the cruise line.
Whilst the inclement weather prohibited the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team from their highly anticipated display, the event attracted tens of thousands of spectators who Tweeted and Facebooked photos of the ships as they sailed down the Solent.
Attended by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, Azura godmother Darcey Bussell and a host of dignitaries, passengers aboard the seven ships participated in a special themed ‘Grand Event’ evening including a commemorative dinner and champagne deck party.
“As one of our esteemed godmothers Princess Anne’s presence and the congregation of our entire fleet to celebrate 175 years of heritage will go down in British maritime history and provide long lasting memories,” P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow said.
Past passengers are encouraged to share their memories and stories of travelling with P&O Cruises on a dedicated website celebrating 175 years of the line.
