Airline Records Fifty Shades Of Grey for Women to Enjoy At 35,000ft

Thursday, 12 July 2012

Virgin Atlantic has revealed today it is looking into making the best-seller Fifty Shades of Grey available for passengers to enjoy as an audio book during flights. The book’s saucy content has caused controversy since it first went on sale several weeks ago and the airline wants fliers to experience it aurally at a heady 35,000ft.

The book centres on Anastasia Steele, a virgin who meets a wealthy businessman with particular tastes in the bedroom. It has already sold over 10 million copies to an audience hungry to find out how their relationship grows.

Virgin Atlantic’s Head of PR; Fay Burgin commented:

Fifty shades of Grey has quickly gained notoriety as a ‘naughty novel’ leaving some women embarrassed reading their copy in a public space. We want to give our female passengers the chance to enjoy the book in an intimate way, away from prying eyes. Of course, we can’t promise to spare any blushes and can’t be held responsible for any risqué behaviour that listening to the recording inspires.”

Audio books will be another new feature of JAM – Virgin Atlantic’s new Inflight Entertainment System. It features a touch-screen control panel allowing passengers instant access to over 300 hours of entertainment. This innovative on board technology follows on from the announcement that passengers can also now email, SMS and make calls from their own mobile phones whilst in the air – a useful addition if listening to Fifty Shades of Grey causes passengers to think of their loved ones.
