Tiger Airways is performing strong on home turf in Singapore while the effects of last year’s hiatus in Australia are showing poor performance. Tiger Airlines Singapore experienced a six percent growth in passenger loads for June 2012 compared to previous year, carrying 365,000 passengers. In total for the first six months of 2012, the low-cost airline has flown four million passengers which is an increase of 28 percent year-on-year. For Tiger Australia, ramping up services was a focus and the commencement of operations from its second Australian base in Sydney saw the launch of Sydney – Gold Coast services on 1 July 2012. The 12 months to June 2012 for Tiger Australia saw the airline fly 1.2 million passengers which was a decrease of over half of last year’s total for the same period. The disruptions to services in mid 2011 and the subsequent under-utilisation of its fleet are contributing factors for the decrease. |
